Mini Case. Indonesia: Market Expansion Potential for Hybrid Tutoring Apps
Mini Case. Indonesia: Market Expansion Potential for Hybrid Tutoring Apps
06.08.2026
With smartphone penetration steadily growing across both urban and rural Indonesia (approximately 84% and 72%, respectively) and a continued increase in user digital literacy, we expect to see a surge in demand for hybrid tutoring apps within the next years.

Our latest study reveals that the biggest opportunity for market stakeholders lies in their ability to educate their potential consumers that the offer that merges in-person and online learning activities exists. The Omniki study revealed that currently only 4.9% of study participants turn to hybrid tutoring as the preferred model of after-school education.

Based on the findings of Omniki’s recent study, we see the current lack of awareness as the ideal environment for market expansion — consumer demand for flexible learning solutions already exists and continues to grow, yet many potential users remain unaware of the benefits and accessibility that hybrid tutoring offers.

Success drivers

The study explores key factors that stakeholders can prioritise to succeed. While tutor competence is by far the most cited decision-making criterion, there are other factors that market stakeholders should draw focus on to spearhead their solutions among target consumers.

Adoption barriers

To understand what might prevent Indonesian parents from outsourcing education through hybrid tutoring apps, we asked survey respondents to identify their primary concerns when using a hybrid tutoring app.

Despite the widespread assumption that parents give too much thought about how much time their children spend looking at the screen of their gadget, this concern ranks relatively low. Instead, issues such as child safety and data privacy emerge among the top five significant barriers to using the hybrid tutoring model.

Decision making drivers

While emotional consumption prevails in online shopping for consumer goods, purchases in the education sector are always intentional. To better understand what ultimately influences purchasing decisions, our study examines which individuals have the greatest impact on the decision-maker to adopt hybrid tutoring services.
