Mini Case: Indonesia’s Logistics Market Has Clear Leaders
Mini Case: Indonesia’s Logistics Market Has Clear Leaders
07.08.2026
Indonesia is stepping up efforts to strengthen its national logistics system. Earlier this year, the government reaffirmed that logistics is a strategic pillar of economic competitiveness, highlighting the need for a more efficient, integrated and resilient ecosystem capable of supporting long-term growth. As Indonesia works to reduce logistics costs and improve connectivity across the country, attention is increasingly turning to the performance of the logistics sector.

For logistics providers, however, stronger infrastructure and a more efficient ecosystem solve only part of the hallenge. In a market where consumers are already familiar with established brands, future growth depends not only on operational performance, but also on understanding how people choose between competing services.

To better understand today’s competitive landscape, Omniki surveyed consumers across Java, exploring recent usage of logistics services, brand trust and next-choice preference. Together, these indicators offer a snapshot of where brands stand today — and, just as importantly, where the biggest opportunities for growth may lie.

The results suggest that Indonesia’s logistics market is already more established than it might appear. J&T Express is the clear market leader, having been used by 79.7% of respondents in the past three months, while JNE ranks second with 20.9%. No other provider reaches double-digit recent usage. In other words, consumers are aware of multiple logistics providers, but their actual behaviour is concentrated around only a few.

Trust tells a slightly different story. Beyond the market leaders, several logistics brands have already earned meaningful levels of consumer confidence. Consumers are clearly willing to consider more than one provider, suggesting that alternative brands have succeeded in establishing credibility.

The picture changes again when consumers are asked which provider they would choose for their next delivery. J&T Express remains the first choice for 69.2% of respondents, while JNE is the only other provider to attract a substantial share of future preference (13.8%). Most remaining brands account for only a small proportion of intended future choice. This suggests that building trust is only part of the challenge. Being seen as reliable does not necessarily translate into becoming the brand consumers choose first.

For logistics brands, this distinction matters. In a mature market, increasing awareness alone is unlikely to change behaviour. The more important question is what would persuade consumers to switch from a provider they already use to one they already trust.

Understanding today’s market leaders is only the first step. The bigger question is why consumers continue choosing one provider over another. What would persuade a customer to switch? Which service attributes matter most? Which customer segments are genuinely open to trying a different logistics brand?

These are the questions that determine whether a growth campaign changes behaviour or simply increases awareness. To learn what drives Indonesian consumers to stay loyal, switch brands or trust one provider over another, contact the Omniki.Survey team. We can help identify the behavioural drivers behind consumer choice.
