Baku citizens outline their primary concerns with personal security

Omniki.Survey conducted a study to assess the level of trust that residents of Baku place in their mayor, as well as their perceptions of the city’s security.

The findings show that residents of Azerbaijan’s capital increasingly emphasise the importance of trust in local authorities and express a growing desire to see improvements in public safety.

This study provides insight into how citizens view the city mayor, evaluate his performance in office, and perceive the general state of affairs in Baku.

The survey was carried out between December 19 and December 29, 2022, with 1,200 participants.

It presents key statistical data and analysis that help better understand the current public sentiment in the capital.

Do the residents of Baku trust their mayor?

According to the collected data, about 25.5% of respondents express a positive level of trust. However, the majority of the residents still do not trust the mayor — such is the case for 38.2%. Additionally, a portion of the respondents are undecided on this issue (38%).

City of Baku Residents' Opinion on Their Current Situation


Approximately 14% of respondents generally see positive development in the city. However, 39.6%, are dissatisfied with the situation in the capital.

Delving further into the topic, respondents were asked about the most pressing issues in Baku today. The residents highlighted several key concerns:

  • Standard of living — 56.8%;
  • Transportation problems — 51.9%;
  • Utilities issues — 34.4%;
  • Education — 31.8%.

These aspects are noted by most city dwellers. The resolution of these issues will likely impact the trust level in the mayor and other senior authorities.

Do city residents feel safe?



Regarding this factor, 27.6% notice improvements. The number of those who believe life in the city has changed for the worse is significantly lower — 18.1%.
To fully assess the situation, Omniki.Survey enquired the respondents about their biggest concerns in the city of Baku. The responses were as follows:

  • Bribes, corruption — 35.4%;
  • Internet and bank card fraud — 23%;
  • Traffic accidents caused by another driver — 22.1%.

Thus, due to the aforementioned reasons, residents cannot feel completely safe in their city. Other concerns troubling citizens are listed in the chart below:

Conclusions

From the conducted study, it is evident that only a quarter of respondents express positive trust in the city head, while 38.2% do not trust the politician, and another 38% find it difficult to answer.

Regarding the overall situation in the city, only 14% see positive dynamics, whereas 39.6% of citizens are dissatisfied with the current situation, especially among people over 65 years old and women. The most pressing issues identified by residents include the standard of living (56.8%), transportation problems (51.9%), utilities issues (34.4%), and education (31.8%). Addressing these issues could positively influence the overall trust level in the mayor and city authorities.
